MOA's Celebrate Sober

Tuesday, December 31st 2024

Malden Overcoming Addiction sponsored its 9th Celebrate Sober this past week, hosted at Club 24 and in memory of Bobby Crowley. Over 100 people jammed into the Club’s function hall, dining on a delicious array of gourmet Italian foods prepared by BOBBY C'S RISTORANTE and donated to Malden Overcoming Addiction for the event. Julie, the restaurant’s owner is the late Bobby Crowley’s daughter. Bobby was a longtime member of Club 24 and Julie continuously supports MOA.

Master of Ceremonies Dana Brown welcomed everyone in attendance and singled out MOA President Paul Hammersley for his heroic efforts in leading MOA’s work. Mayor Gary Christenson thanked MOA and the crowd for their collective work in addressing substance use issues in the community and highlighted some of the accomplishments across the City over the last 12 months around recovery support.

The guest speaker was Billy A, in recovery since 1989. He spoke of the victories and joy he has experienced since becoming clean and sober and highlighted the repaired relationship he now has with his daughter. He was inspirational!

Dancing all night to DJ Scott Elias, and being goofy at the photo booth, guests were treated to a water and soft drink bar provided by Malden Police Commissioner Barbara Murphy, also assisted by Councilor Peg Crowe, Marie Brown, and Holly Garcia.
